Sorbus domestica (Service Tree)
Modra‘s three service trees are protected by law since 2003. These rare trees overlook the town from a hill behind the old town walls. The land on which they grow is nowadays privately owned. The circumference of the smallest of the three is 254 cm and its tree top spans over 12 meters. The estimated age of the tree is 150 years. The biggest tree is 503 cm in circumference and is approximately 300 years old. It is one of the largest service trees in Europe.
